This chapter has a promising beginning…indeed, the best beginning!
Early in the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the Lord: Jeremiah 26:1
Word came from the LORD (Jehovah).” To US! The remainder of the chapter is one of intense conflict regarding the people’s reaction. Some liked Jeremiah’s message: others rejected it. However, the messenger cannot control the reaction of the hearer.
The messenger’s duty is to make certain the message is delivered…even in an intimidating situation. Can you think of any better message to deliver to today’s society than the Word of the LORD? I cannot.
Second, let us be thankful that God has actually spoken to us. He could have passed by and said nothing. But God chose to speak! What a tremendous act of grace! God lifted the fog and allowed us to see and hear truth. God spoke! These words are still valid today! God made known what He wants us to know.
HE REVEALED HIS MIND! He gave us His opinions, His advice, His warnings, His blessings. Amen! Jesus Himself popularized the saying, “He that hath ears, let him hear or let him consider!”
Ask yourself, “Do I really hear what God has said? How high a priority do I place on what God has said? Do I hedge on what God has said or make the message clear and plain?” God help us to treasure the Word of the LORD!
