Well Done!
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:23 (NASB)
We have cherished memories in life, in particular when we receive praise for a job well done from someone. I remember my first vegetables that I planted as a boy, and the praise received when the harvest was good. I also remember a challenge at university from our economics lecturer for which the prize was a text book; I presented him with the correct answer within the hour, and received some lovely words of congratulations with my prize. I treasured that book during my studies!
Today’s verse comes from the parable of the talents told by our Lord, in which the talents are money invested by a landowner with his servants. Two invest well and were rewarded, but one hid the talent seeing no return and was punished. Take note that the good servants who wisely invested different amounts received the same blessing that we read above. The talents in the parable are an allegory for life, and the abilities we have – all of us with different types and amounts of abilities.
Dear Reader, we all have abilities and talents gifted us by God, some great and some small – but we receive the same reward from Him when use them wisely. Whether you are the pastor or cleaner, or anywhere in between, God loves it when you serve Him wholeheartedly honouring Him. May you hear Him say to you in Heaven someday “well done my good and faithful servant!”
