Share What You Can
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 (NASB)
In recent times we heard the inevitable but sad news of my last remaining aunt whose health had deteriorated quickly. Her body is still with us, but sadly her mind went some time ago due to the wicked disease of dementia. As I pondered my mum’s sister who we pray will be with her soon, I remembered the woman who shared Jesus with me at every opportunity. Specifically, I remembered her Christmas gift of a Christian biography one year, which early in the New Year led me to Christ. This is a story I have shared before, and I make no apology for sharing it again. Her willingness to share her Lord and Saviour saved my life, and through that affected other lives for the Kingdom of God.
Over the years I have shared Jesus with many people, too many to mention or even remember…and I am not finished yet! I shared Him with my family, some who rejected Him and also me. I shared Him with my closest friends (brothers by another mother!), and occasionally we still talk of Him. I have spoken of Him on streets, handing out tracts. I even put tracts about Him in my returned library books. I have had the joy over the years of seeing some accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
I met one of these people a few years ago in the Kingdom shopping centre, Glenrothes. I heard a voice calling me as I left the library, “Mr.Kearns!” I turned and there was a young man in his late teens smiling at me. He identified himself as a young lad who I had taught in Sunday School and helped to lead to Jesus. What a fine young man he had become; and he remembered little old me who shared Jesus with him and had given him his first Bible.
Dear Reader, the decline in the health of our loved ones such as my aunt ought to remind us how short our time on earth is. Our life is a gift from our Creator, and our eternal life the most precious gift of our Redeemer – Jesus Christ. We cannot take anything with us when we leave here; but we can make advance deposits in the bank of Heaven by sharing the Good News of Jesus with those who we meet. Who can you share Jesus with today?
