One Day the Horror Will End

At 7 p.m. Sunday on September 3, 2023, in Kissimmee, Florida (about 15 miles from my home in Orlando), a 15-year-old teen male without a driver’s permit decided to go on a joyride.

As he was he was speeding along his merry way, he either didn’t see the stop sign, or simply ignored it. The results were deadly as the teen …

… T-boned an SUV with a family inside, according to
Florida Highway Patrol. The crash killed a grandmother
and her three grandchildren inside – ages 1, 9, and 11 …[1]

That grandmother, by the way, was only 50 years old.

On the radio today, I listened to an interview with the mother of the deceased children, and it was painful indeed. The talk show then moved into the topic of what to do with the teen driver of the vehicle who did the killing.

I didn’t listen to it; my mind was consumed in thought regarding the utter evil of this world – the kind of evil that would leave parents to live in perpetual mourning over the loss of their 3 children all at once, and at such delicate ages. Together the 3 of them added up to age 21.

I have no commentary to make on this, but instead remind myself that a day is soon coming when the horror of this world will end. The horror of children’s lives snuffed out in an instantnt. The horror of young parents having to grieve to the day they too leave this world. The horror of evil having its own joyride in these ever-darkening sinful days.

But it won’t always be this way, for the Word of God assures us:

And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion and the fattened steer will be together;
And a little boy will lead them.

Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.

They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

Then on that day
The nations will resort to the root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a signal flag for the peoples;
And His resting place will be glorious.
(Isaiah 11:6-10)

May that day come quickly!
