Support your Pastors
(Pastor Appreciation Day is October 8th)
You might interpret this verse as an encouragement to financially support your pastors, local church, and others who share wisdom from God’s word with you. That would be a reasonable interpretation and one we should all engage in. But let me offer you an additional perspective. I sometimes get wonderful comments on these posts. I love it when people share how the Lord’s wisdom, presented via the uniqueness of the life He has led me through, impacts them. People send me direct messages of appreciation. I occasionally get email responses to my blog posts of how God sent that message to a person at exactly the right time. I greatly appreciate it when people reach out in these ways! I tell you all these things for this reason: if you encourage those who bring you good things through God’s word, you are sharing “good things with the one who teaches.” If God is helping you through another person, then tell them so! Send a note of encouragement to your pastor or catch them in the middle of the week to say thank you! Reach out to people whose books you’ve read, whose podcasts you’ve listened to, or who have supported your growth in Christ in any way. God calls us to be thankful, let us be thankful to Him AND to those through whom He brings His truth. This is another way of loving our neighbor and has the added benefit of encouraging the person to keep teaching the Truth!
