“It’s Closer Than We Thought”

The writer of Hebrews says, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.” (Hebrews 9:27-28a)

But as believers in Jesus Christ, we no longer need to fear death. The Apostle Paul said, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)

Therefore, we look can look forward to that day with great expectation and excitement.

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain … For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.” (Philippians 1:21-24)

Therefore, while death is closer than we may have thought, we need not fear it, for the outcome for believers in Jesus is eternal life in His presence in heaven.

And now, with everything going on around the world, from the wars in Ukraine and Israel, to violence that is happening globally, not to mention the natural disasters, those who know the Bible and recognize the signs of the times realize we are living in the last of the last days.

And while we may not know the day or the hour, we know we are getting close.

But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.(Matthew 24:36-37)

Therefore, let’s get ready because we’re closer than we thought!

This is a great reminder that the more we see these things taking place, the more our focus needs to be on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). When we keep our eyes upon Jesus and eternity that we have to look forward to with Him and not on our circumstances and the things we see going on around us in this world, we will be encouraged to ready ourselves and have that peace in Him, looking to the joy that is set before us.
