This is the prophet Daniel writing
He had already recorded prophecies given to him by the Lord that had come true. He wrote many that came true later, and several that will come true in our future. But notice here that Daniel read from an earlier prophet, Jeremiah. It was several decades before Daniel read it that Jeremiah wrote his prophecy about how long the Jewish people would be in exile. And Jeremiah’s prophecy came true, just as given to him also by the Lord. Let me say this. We think we are more intelligent than those who lived earlier in history because we are more technologically advanced. But the truth is, we are not more intelligent. In many respects I’m a fan of technology. It allows us to do things and reach people for the Lord in ways that were not possible before. And yet I, and millions of others study the Bible, of which the newest parts are still 2,000 years old. Why? Because, as Daniel observed from Jeremiah, it contains the words of truth. It is completely reliable. Beyond the fact that it is the living word of God that changes hearts through the Holy Spirit…the Bible has been shown over and over to be right about events in history. Wisdom is not found in always seeking the new idea of the day. No, wisdom is found in relying on that which has always been true, the perfect Word of God.
In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, by descent a Mede, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans— in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.
