Discipleship In Action – Part 2
Controlling Our Thoughts and Minds
(Note: If you would like to start this series from the beginning, start with Part 1 )
Where do we start with becoming a true disciple of Christ?
Paul, in Ephesians 4:22-23 tells us, “Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” In other words, it all starts in the mind, where the enemy of our faith always tries to deceive us.
Why must we be vigilant in our thoughts and minds? Romans 8:5-6, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
What else must we do? 2 Corinthians 10:5, “Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” In truth, our secure source of inspiration for Christ is the Word of God. How do we stay on the righteous path of God? Proverbs 16:3, “Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.”
The end result is that if we do keep our hearts and minds on the Lord, He says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3.
Does God’s peace reign in my heart right now?

What André Gourd started out as a daily message to his sons in 2019, has grown into daily messages to all who wish to receive them. While he didn’t have a clue he was to share these messages with the world, the Lord put on his heart in 2020 to do so. The purpose of his daily messages is to remind those of us who know Christ as Savior and Lord, that He is present in this world and in our lives. André desires to keep each one “Short and To The Point,” so you will take time to read them. They are NOT related to opinion. They simply “Point to Scripture.” He leaves us with a one sentence “Challenge thought” to help us live out our commitment to focus on Christ and live by His word. If you desire to read more of his scripture challenges you will find him at Christ At The Helm.
