John 14:16 A Provided Helper

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. John 14:16

There are times in every person’s life in which one needs some help. Many try to believe that they are self-sufficient and never need anyone else to help them up. Although they may be able to do many different things, they will at times fail because of the need for extra help. This help may be physical help or just emotional support, but it is help that is needed to keep moving forward.

John records Jesus talking about His leaving. He then tells the disciples that He will ask the Father to send a Helper, who will be able to be with them forever.

All the other religious beliefs in the world focus on the person doing what is needed to get into heaven or achieve perfection. It is completely about self and what one can do on one’s own abilities.

Needing help is often seen as a weakness. The world focuses upon being able to do what is needed on their own.

As Jesus was leaving the earth, He knew that His followers would never be able to do what was needed on their own. In this world, many believers would feel that they are alone, with the world against them. They needed someone to be by their side to help them.

This Helper, the Holy Spirit, would help them by reminding them of the words and teachings of Jesus. He would give them strength to keep walking on the path God has them on. He would give them strength to resist the temptation thrown their way. He would give them peace in times of trouble and chaos.

One needs to know the strength and hope one has with the Holy Spirit dwelling inside.

There are times in which you need some extra help, physically and emotionally. You may try to seek friends to help you out, but they are not always available. Jesus knew that one day you would need that help. He has given you His Holy Spirit to be a Helper in your time of need any time of the day and anywhere you are. Lean on the Holy Spirit to give you the strength, wisdom and direction you need to keep moving forward on the path towards heaven.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the Holy Spirit’s dwelling within you; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you and strengthen you; and that you will know God’s presence at all times in your life.
