(God) Spirit or Gender

~ “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24 ~

Understanding God
has been a mystery.
That elusive Spirit
throughout all of history.

*

To make God feel real,
we have personified the Spirit,
making (him) human
so we could feel near (him).
We fail to see
It’s not gender we need,
to understand God
it’s much deeper indeed.
For to make (him) like us
Is much too confining
Like inflating a balloon,
so we can be near (him).

*

We describe God’s hands
(his) heart for man…
with actions and feelings
we can better understand.

*

But it’s not the physical that makes God real
It’s the Spirit of Power we experience and feel
Not physical hands nor a heart that beats;
Rather, a Mystic Spirit that continually speaks

*

To those who will listen and take it to heart
God’s Spirit is Truth // right from the start.

Psalm 139  “7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.”    NKJV

Today at d’Verse, Bjorn asked us to write a poem in a form called Negativa. It describes something by what it is not rather than by what it is. Originally it was a form or theology whose premise was that one cannot know God so it described God by what God is not.

Bjorn said we could expand the idea to broader areas, but I decided to take the theological route.

“Via Negativa, a term which originally comes from Apophatic Theology and says that the divine can only be approached in terms of saying what a perfect God is not, letting the divine be the void in the middle.” From Wikapedia

Thank you for posting my poem and painting. I love theological ponderings and thinking outside the boxes we have created for ourselves.
