The Stain of Sin

Stains are common when it comes to cleaning our clothes. In fact, every commercial we see for laundry soap talks about its ability to remove those stubborn stains and to make our clothes as good as new.

And these stains come in all sizes and types, from grass stains to food stains. They’re all difficult to remove, because they don’t just stay on the surface of clothes, but rather they infiltrate the clothe’s fiber.

That is the stain of sin. It corrupts everything it touches, going deep into a person’s heart and soul. The only thing that can clean such deep down sin and evil that infiltrates our very lives is blood, but not just any blood, but the blood of Jesus Christ. It is the blood he shed upon the cross for the forgiveness of sin.

It is as in the song, “Nothing But The Blood”

“What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

What can cleanse me from within? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!”

Stating the Law of God from Leviticus 17:11, the writer of Hebrews states that without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness (Hebrews 9:22).

Now consider the blood of Jesus.

“In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7)

“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” (Hebrews 9:14)

“If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus.” (Hebrews 10:19)

Thank you Dennis for this refreshing song that I leant from my Mother at the age of seven. She also knew it at a tender age in 1940’s. I believe it is as old as Christianity. Other wise , thanks for your insightful and healing message.

There are just some really great worship songs that are far too often forgot, but they are indeed powerful. Thank you for your comments.

In reading this, I love what Hebrews 9:12-14 says: ““Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Not only does the blood of Jesus cleanse the stain of our sins, it also cleanses our conscience. No more do we need to live in guilt and shame for those who receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. And unlike the blood of goats and calves, which had to be repeated every year, with Jesus, one sacrifice once and for all was needed. Something never to be taken for granted.
