He Calls Me Friend!

(Today is Friendship Day)

You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

JOHN 15:14 -15 (NASB)

In my opinion Monday is a good day to talk about something as precious as friendship; there are not many treasures in life as precious as friendship, especially the sort that lasts a long time. From early childhood we seek friends, celebrating gleefully when someone proclaims their friendship for us. On the contrary if someone ends a friendship, it hurts and is a tearful affair. As I write this I am reminded of my two faithful friends from my early childhood; they are brothers to me, and our families are close – I thank God for them.

The inspiration of this post came during our communion service at the Mustard Seed hall yesterday, lead by our dear brother John (a true friend indeed!). In the precursor of serving the elements John shared how he had been reminded of an old hymn “Jesus My Friend of Calvary” which lead to the verses in our devotional today. The tenderness of the message touched my heart deeply; what a profound thought it is that God the Son calls those who follow Him “friends.” The Son of God, the Messiah, the King of Kings calls me friend!

Dear Reader, do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, following Him everyday? He calls you “friend” too. Reflect on it, all the world’s false religions/gods demand utter obedience – but none call their followers friends. This Monday can you rejoice with me in our Lord and Saviour, our “forever friend.”

A friend is one who tells you the truth. True friendship is rooted in divine Love and reflects God’s qualities.

    Your Friend -His Servant,
