This is a man who is filled with demons
This is a man who is filled with demons. That’s not my interpretation, later in verse 9 he tells Jesus, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” But notice a couple of interesting occurrences in these verses.
1) The man, under the influence of many demons, bows low before Jesus. 2) The man acknowledges Jesus as the Son of God and the demons beg Him not to torture them. If you read though encounters of Jesus and people with demons, you’ll notice an interesting pattern. The demons never fight against Jesus, no they recognize who He is and know that they are subject to Him. In other words, the demons never question that Christ is all powerful over them!
Sister, brother, please hear me. If the devil and his angels know that Christ is all powerful over them, why would you fear them at all? No evil being has ANY power over the person who has the Holy Spirit living inside them. They are powerless against the majesty of God who lives in you. You don’t need to fear demons coming inside you or against you, they cannot live within you if you are a forgiven child of God! Stay close to the Lord, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you again, and move forward to in His power to complete the mission He has prepared for you!
When Jesus was still some distance away, the man saw him, ran to meet him, and bowed low before him. With a shriek, he screamed, “Why are you interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In the name of God, I beg you, don’t torture me!” Mark 5:6-7 NLT
