Forgive Our Nation, O Lord

Job 12: 23-24:
“He makes nations great, and destroys them;
He enlarges nations and disperses them.
He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason;
He makes them wander in a trackless waste.”

 In light of the call to pray for our nation as we prepare for the 250th Anniversary on July 4, 2026, I am inspired to name today and each Monday through October, “America Prays Monday.” Join me, won’t you, in praying for a great move of God in the soul of our nation and its citizens.

 Father God, Your Word says, “blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Dear Lord, there are many things wrong with our country at present, things that contradict Your Word. Many of our citizens have lost all reason, and we are in danger of wandering “in a trackless waste.” We have sensed for decades that there is a threat to our freedoms, a threat to our right to speak freely, defend ourselves and our families, as well as to the covenant secured by our Founders that promises we can freely worship You.

 O, God, may those freedoms never be taken away. Many look to worldly things for fulfillment, completeness, and a sense of peace, but come away empty. We as a nation have purposely turned away from your Word, your Commandments, and precepts. As a nation, we used to revere your Holy name, but now we worship idols, look to our investments for security, and seek the internet for wisdom. What is good we call evil, and what is evil we call good. Our country cannot continue on its current path without reaping God’s judgment. You warn us, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” (Gal. 6:7) This verse speaks to us as individuals but could apply to our nation as well—we reap what we sow.

 Dear Lord, remind us that if we humble ourselves as a nation and seek your face, You will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land. Please God, we beg You to act upon Your Word. We have strayed from You and the purpose for which this nation was founded. We have sinned against You; forgive the sins of our country and have mercy on us. Heal us from the sins of abortion, injustice, perversion, human trafficking, slavery, immorality, deception, lying, corruption, bribery, violence on the innocent, and so much more that You are fully aware of. Help us to turn back to You, our righteous God, who can bestow upon us blessings of greatness and freedom as days of old. Forgive us, O God. Bring reconciliation, unity, and spiritual revival to our land. We pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

 “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. “ ~ Martin Luther King
