Called To Be Saints
(Today is “All Saints’ Day”)
A saint is not a football player, nor is he or she someone super holy having been canonized by the Roman Catholic Church.
The Greek word for saint is “hagios,” which is where we get our English word for “holy.” So, a saint is someone who is holy. Therefore, we are called to be holy. But what does it mean to be holy?
If something was to be holy unto the Lord, he or she was set apart for His service. If we are, therefore, saints, we are holy, and if we are holy, we are those who have been called out by God to be completely set apart for Him and for His use.
A saint is someone who is entirely devoted to Jesus Christ.
This is what Paul, in his letter to the Roman church, calls all of those who are followers of Jesus Christ, who call themselves Christians. “To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints” (Romans 1:7; see also 1 Corinthians 1:2; 2 Corinthians 1:1; Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:2).
We are not called to be super Christians; instead we are called to be those who have set themselves apart in service to the Lord God. Therefore, we are to walk in His truth, love, light, and wisdom.
We are also called to avoid those things that are not befitting being called a saint.
“But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks” (Ephesians 5:3-4).
And so, our calling is to be holy, to be set apart for the work of the Lord, which is to evangelize, that is, to share the good news of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19).
Thus, we’re called to be saints.

Thank you, Moose. I guess I can give you a few extra points for this. lol
Take care my friend and God bless
So true. We are to be set apart and surrendered to God’s will however and in whatever context He wants to use us. He has a specific call on each of us to impact lives where He has placed us for the purpose of proclaiming the gospel, which should always be the priority. I am also reminded of 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”
Thank you, Debbie,
We all have a specific calling, and therefore, when we walk in that calling, we can be called saints, that is, holy and wholly devoted to Him and His purposes.
