SHAKING FOUNDATIONS

Could it be that God is shaking the nations? Sometimes He shakes things up to remind us about the eternal things that cannot be shaken. In the process, sometimes we shake upon the Rock, but the Rock does not shake under us.

I was reading 2 Chronicles 15-16. The nation was in a mess spiritually. They were without the true God, without teaching priests and no one paid attention to the law. The result was there was distress, disturbances, afflictions, family conflict, urban conflict, international crisis, no peace and breakdowns throughout the culture.

Does any of this sound familiar?

The real zinger in the story was that it was God who troubled them with the distress. God! The truth is God will get the attention of nations who repeatedly ignore Him. He allows cataclysmic events to disturb the comfortable. God will shake earthbound paradigms to reveal His Kingdom realities.

It is easy to think our main problems are political, economic, social, and even moral. What if our root problem is spiritual? What if our deepest problem resides in the human heart which only God can change? As the vertical relationship with God strengthens so will the horizontal relationships with each other. When the Kingdom of God prevails in human souls, peace and reconciliation and human flourishing springs forth. Oh, how we need the help of the Spirit of God and a reawakened yearning in our hearts for God and His ways.

The good news of this ancient account is a promise that is still true, “The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the whole earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”
