Jesus Changes Everthing

by Mark Byrd

One of our three values at First Ridgeland is that JESUS CHANGES EVERYTHING. The Bible is full of stories where people woke up distraught, met Jesus, and then their lives were altered forever. The following are just a few instances from Scripture where Jesus changed everything:

    • a man was healed from an evil spirit,
    • another was cured of leprosy,
    • a paralytic could walk,
    • a deaf-mute could talk,
    • a blind person could see,
    • and the list goes on.

What do all these people have in common? Their lives were radically transformed because of an encounter with Jesus! Because they were healed not only physically, but spiritually as well . . . they lived with a renewed purpose.

Much like these instances in Scripture, Jesus continues to change everything when we accept Him as Savior and Lord. One key place this can be seen is in forgiveness, specifically the manner in which we forgive each other. I know of several people who felt the sting of betrayal within the last year, but who have also extended grace because they have been first forgiven by God (Matthew 6:14-15). One indicator of a person’s emotional, relational, and spiritual health is how quickly they forgive. So – let’s remember to forgive fast and forgive often!

Jesus has shown his forgiveness to us through His unconditional love. What are some ways that you can love others around you as we enter Fall? Maybe you can introduce yourself to a new neighbor or co-worker. Maybe you can invite a friend to join you on Sundays for worship at your church!

Mark and his family reside in Madison, MS. He is married to the former Mary Kraft of McComb, and they have two daughters, Anna Kris and Allie. Mark has served churches in Mississippi for over 25 years. He received degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His greatest passion is preaching, teaching, and discipleship. Mark enjoys attending sporting events, participating in community events, and spending time with his family. Mark, Mary and his children, love serving with the First Ridgeland family.
