It’s A Date

for He says,
“At the acceptable time I listened to you,
And on the day of salvation I helped you.”
Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”

2 Corinthians 6:2 (NASB)

Our lives are full of important dates, from the day we are born. The date we become an adult, get married, have children and grandchildren. Certain historical dates are also ingrained in our memories, such as when Kennedy or Elvis died, or more notably the tragic day of 11th September 2011. At present the world is focusing on the 25th December, the adopted date of Christ’s birth. The date is at best speculative with no concrete historical evidence other than that Christ was born of Mary in Bethlehem, which is Good News worth celebrating every day of the year.

Today’s verse tells us something important about the day that we become a Christian; it is a day chosen by God. “The day of salvation” is not a random day in the calender of our life:

“…He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,”

Ephesians 1:4-5

Dear reader, it is ordained by Almighty God that we hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a date of His choosing for all men, maybe you have already heard and accepted the Good News – rejoice in it if that is the case! But maybe your reading this news for the first time, that the meaning of Christmas is more than a baby hundreds of years ago. This baby was none other than the Prince of Peace, sent by God His Father to bring peace to you. It is about God reaching out to you today that you may have peace with Him and get to know Him personally.
