Thought for Today: “The Wisdom of Mortality”
Life is Not a Numbers Game!
Asking God to help us number our days is not a game; rather it’s a sure bet.
Moses asked God, “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
The Bible tells us that life is fleeting, and compared to eternity, life is short (Psalm 89:47-48). Therefore, we need to ask God to help us during this time by giving us the wisdom we need to live this life to its fullest and for the kingdom of God.
King David prayed, “Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. (Psalm 39:4)
Solomon understood this, that it is a good thing to contemplate this reality saying, “It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.” (Ecclesiastes 7:2)

[1] Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
Amen!
Thank you Keith, I pray you have a great day and that God opens up new vista’s of His word to you. Take care and God bless
Now working in memory care, the reality of our days being numbered, becomes all the more distinct. It is such a reminder to me to make every moment count for eternity for Jesus. We have one life to impact as many people as we can for the Lord. I am reminded of what it says of king David in Acts 13:36, ”“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep…”
Debbie, working in your field gives you a unique perceptive that many of us take for granted, but those who work with are faced with their mortality every day. I pray God gives you the wisdom and compassion that is needed for them. Thanks and God bless
