GREED
TODAY’S VERSE
Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.
Luke 12:15 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
We must guard against greed. Our society pushes materialism, so we try to bolster our self-image with possessions, prestige, and status. But Christianity flies in the face of materialistic greed. It begs the question, “When is it enough?” In this same passage as today’s verse, Jesus counters our need for greed by saying, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. – Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! – Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” If we want to obey Jesus, then we must guard our hearts by being on guard against greed. God has a different standard, a different measuring stick for this life. Today, listen to Jesus, “Life is not measured by how much you own.”
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, stir my heart. Help me to love what You love, to desire what You desire, and to be on guard against every kind of greed. In Your Holy name, I pray.
AMEN
