The Weather Channel & Jesus
I love the weather channel! The fact of the matter is I am a weather nerd. There I said it & yes, I feel a little better now that it’s off my chest. I am all about keeping track of the rain fall @ our house with my handy rain guage.
I have learned a ton from watching Jim Cantore & their team of metereologists. They have educated me on upper level lows, air-mass thunderstorms, cloud discharge, cloud – to – cloud discharge, coastal flooding, convection, directional shear, feeder bands, vortex, ice crystals, inversion, etc… O.K. you get the point.
What I enjoy the most about the team of meteorologists @ The Weather Channel is not their knowledge of the atmosphere & weather conditions. What I admire is their passion. There is nothing quite like Cantore drawing up the map with a potential supercell thunderstorms on the horizon.
I was thinking, am I that passionate about Jesus? Is there anything I love more & am more passionate about than Jesus? Tough question? Sure! Sobering? Absolutely!
Jesus made an usual statement in Matthew 10:37 “Anyone who loves his father or his mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”
Matthew uses an interesting play on words in the Greek. The verse could read, ‘anyone who loves Jesus less than father, mother, son or daughter is not worthy of me. Matthew raises the issues of priority & passion. Have you elevated anything above your relationship with Jesus? Is there anything or anyone you are more passionate about than Jesus?
- Are you more passionate about your favorite team than Jesus?
- Are you more passionate about your favorite hobby than Jesus?
- Do you love family & friends more than Jesus?
- Are you more passionate about your career than Jesus?
You get the idea. How can you know if you have elevated anything or someone above Jesus? Trace how you spend your time, resources, & how you use your talents.
The answer to that question will reveal if adjustments are needed. So, the next time you see Jim Cantore passionately describing a supercell thunderstorm, ask yourself, ‘Am I that passionate about Jesus?’
