7 Bible Verses About Love and Marriage

Proverbs 18:22 declares that “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”

Terri and I first met over twenty-three years ago, in the early weeks of 2000. Having survived partying like it was 1999 and Y2K, as well as several other trials and tribulations, God helped us find each other. We met online—back when nobody really met anybody online. We met in an age pre-TikTok and pre-Tinder. After we met, we dated.

 And dated.

 And dated..

 For a REALLY LONG TIME.

 Finally, I proposed.

On October 25, 2008, Terri and I got married! Today marks our 15th wedding anniversary. Time sure has flown by since the moment we first met in-person. I don’t know where the last 15–let alone 23–years have gone.

I do know that I am blessed and a better man for Terri being in my life.

In celebration of our anniversary and in honor of love and marriage, I thought I would share 7 Bible verses about the subject of love and marriage in today’s blogpost. My prayer is that you would chew on them and soak them in —whether you’re in a longterm relationship or just starting one anew. I believe that applying biblical wisdom to marriage and viewing love through the lens of Scripture leads to a better, healthier, and more fulfilling life.

 Without further ado…

Genesis 2:24 – Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Proverbs 19:14 – House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Hebrews 13:4 – Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

1 Peter 3:7 – Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

 Make today a glorious day!
