All three Persons of the Trinity in one place.
This is one of the places in the Bible where we encounter all three Persons of the Trinity in one place. The Son is being baptized by John, the Holy Spirit is descending upon Him, and the Father announces that He loves and is pleased with Jesus. I know the term “Trinity” does not appear in the Bible. But that does not affect the fact that if you read through the Bible, you will repeatedly find the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
How is God both the one and only God but also manifested in three distinct Persons? I admit I do not understand all the details, and frankly, no one else does either. However, as much as we like to understand everything, as much as we seek to have our questions answered, there are some truths of God we cannot comprehend with our limited minds. Some would reject God because they cannot understand all of Him…but if we could understand all of Him, then He would not be God. Sisters and brothers, the Bible declares God is trustworthy, faithful, and true. We have seen Him be so in our own lives. And so let us trust Him and follow Christ, even though we don’t always have complete understanding.
And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:16-17 ESV
