A Spring Psalm Reflecting on a Holy Season

While March 1 marked the beginning of meteorological Spring, this week is when the Spring equinox actually occurs, officially ushering in the Spring season.

Spring is a time of reflection and renewal, as hope blossoms anew.

It’s two weeks until the start of the baseball season. A lifelong Texas Rangers fan, I am hopeful about the team headed into the season [This is also typically true every Fall, before my beloved Cowboys play]. For the Rangers, one of six teams never to win a single World Series title, I pray that this might FINALLY be the season.

As many Christians are in the midst of observing Lent, we can start to turn our hearts to Good Friday and our eyes to Easter.

Lent is a time focused on giving, praying, and fasting. It is a season of reflection and preparation.

Good Friday recalls the day of Christ’s death and the moments leading up to it. Globally, Christians devote this day of Holy Week to contemplating Jesus’ final hours as well as the suffering that He endured.

This season of Holy observance cumulates with Easter Sunday, a day when Christians everywhere celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus not only paid the debt of our sins, but forever sealed our hope for eternal life God.

Modern Psalm 8

1 Hope springs eternal, O sweet Jesus, because of your sacrificial atoning on the cross at Calvary.

2 In You, I have all I will ever need, my Lord, my God; my Jesus.

3 While I lived life yet as a sinner, You rescued me from death and darkness.

4 I praise You, O Lord. I praise You my Jesus!

5 May You find my offering to be a pleasing fragrance as I reflect on what You did for me.

6 As I pray, fast, and give may I grow more deeply connected to You, sweet Jesus.

7 As Holy Week comes, and reverent observance of Good Friday looms, may I turn my heart and eyes toward You, my Rock, my King, my Salvation.

8 And on Easter morning, let me pause to celebrate Your atoning sacrifice and resurrection.

9 I praise You, O Lord. I praise You my Jesus!

10 You are my God, my Rock, my Hope, and my Salvation.

11 Let Your mighty name be exalted and glorified throughout all eternity.

12 Forever and ever, Amen.

Know that I am praying for you, my brothers and sisters, as you navigate your way amidst the trials and troubles of this present world. Easter is coming. One day soon, Jesus will return. Hallelujah!
