Before and After!
Inspired by Pastor Jim’s post Did Moses Fear the King?
When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well. “ Exodus 2:15 (NASB)
“By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he persevered, as though seeing Him who is unseen.” Hebrews 11:27 (NASB)
Isn’t our father God amazing dear reader? I hadn’t posted today yet, but through the post by Pastor Jim I was encouraged to write this wee devotional thought today – I just love God appointments.
In the two verses used in Jim’s post we see the contrast of two occasions in Moses’ life; the young man running for his life from the wrath of a king and years later the man of God who feared no one, not even the king of Egypt. It occurred to me that we see in Moses is a before and after, that is before he met God at the burning bush and after it. He was a changed man in the presence of Almighty God.
As I write a famous example of before and after that comes to my mind is Andy Murray, the Scottish tennis player. I remember him as that skinny youth with raw talent but lacking in experience, but now he is an elder statesman and champion of the game. This has been achieved through time and hard work throughout his career; we too can achieve much, but by the mighty hand of God in our lives. As we read the New Testament and the lives of the disciples, we see a before and after picture in their lives – from common working men to fearless disciples of the Gospel for Christ their Lord.
Dear reader, I know that in my life where I was once a timid lad, in Him I have become bold in His Word. Without Him I am nothing but a wee scared laddie. What is your before and after story in God your Father?
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”
