BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART
Exodus 1:15-21
The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, saying, “When you deliver the Hebrew women, look at the birthstool: if it is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.” The midwives, fearing God, did not do as the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live. So the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, letting the boys live?” The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women: they are vigorous. Before the midwife can come to them, they have given birth.” And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and increased greatly. And [God] established households for the midwives, because they feared God.
This scripture story reveals how the above nurses prevented genocide of the Baby boys. It is evident that they took God as the first resort and decided to defend the cause of their work by serving Him honestly and earnestly.
The big question revealed through this story is this:
How often do you serve the Lord earnestly and honestly when you face a difficult situation? One such as in your workplace, or in your everyday life?
God needs you to continue with His kindness, courage, intelligence and love to care for fellowmen, just as Shiphrah and Puah did to prevent the genocide of the Baby Boys..
Even though some of us may know each and every verse and spiritual law in the Bible, The Scripture tells us that we should not just believe in Christ, but also suffer for His Sake (Philippians 1:29). The two nurses suffered for the sake of Christ by taking a risk when they disobeyed Pharaoh – a step that could end up with a fatal result.
It is now your turn. Do not just believe in Him, but be willing to also suffer for the sake of Christ. The Cardinal ethic of Christianity is sacrifice, not success.
