Sin Seeds & Anchors
Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of the Lord…. NUMBERS 11:1a (NASB)
The rabble who were among them had greedy desires; and also the sons of Israel wept again and said, “Who will give us meat to eat?” NUMBERS 11:4 (NASB)
“…There is nothing at all to look at except this manna.” NUMBERS 11:6b (NASB)
I have a photograph of an orderly marina of leisure boats, all tied up and anchored in their berths. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if they weren’t tied up and anchored, they would drift in several different directions. As Christians in church, we are at anchor in Christ, but if not, then pandemonium will happen in the pews.
In today’s scripture we read the story of when the Israelites were led astray by a rabble-rousing group of folks; these individuals were whining about food, even going to the point of despising the blessing of God’s provided manna. This rabble lead the whole nation astray into open rebellion and ungratefulness against God. Such dissension can spread through churches today if we do not beware of such grumblings in the fellowship of believers, leading to rebellion against God’s Word and His chosen leadership.
Dear reader, beware of little seeds of gossip in church. Do not give them room to grow in you and those you fellowship with. Keep yourself safe from the drifting currents of gossip by being anchored in the Word of God and prayer every day; let His Light shine on the darkness of temptation which seems so harmless. These sinful seeds grow just like Japanese Knot Weed and will throttle all good fruit around them.
