Is It Karma?
O Lord, you are my God.
I will exalt You; I will give thanks to Your name.
For You have worked wonders,
Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
Isaiah 25:1 (NASB)
Recently I heard someone proclaim that some incident in life “must have been fate.” You will surely have also heard the celebratory glee that a bad mishap on some wrong doer is pronounced to be “karma” for the wrong committed. Christians may even smile and nod in agreement at such statements, but they are inconsistent with belief in the God of the Bible.
Life is not a random set of circumstances determined by fate each day; fate and karma are empty words with no operator behind them. Almighty God of the universe(s) is in ultimate control of all that does happen, both good and bad, for His will to be fulfilled in this world. How often we hear folk deride God for wars and suffering, even though He is not the perpetrator of such things. God works wonders in good and bad incidents by His Divine predestined plan; He is the original upcycler. In recent years we have seen people who have taken old furniture and upcycled it into something beautiful and new; God does the same but on a grander scale with the bad things in this world.
Dear reader, bad stuff happens in this world and even in our individual life. It may be economic or health related, but our Father God can upcycle it to His Holy purpose. So when a criminal falls foul of another it isn’t karma….it is God at work to fulfill His plan, to show His love in someone’s life. My recent health problems are an encouragement; I am excited to see how my Father God is going to use them to further His Kingdom in some small way! Be encouraged in your own trials, patiently wait and see what He is about to do with your pain.
