Our Greatest Inheritance
Great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:23b-24 ESV
God’s greatest faithfulness is that He is a Father who never gives up on His children. Though His people had rejected Him and were being led away as captives to Babylon; God was already planning for the return of their children and grandchildren. After times of failure and disappointment in our lives, we can find encouragement that In spite of our failure, our sin and weaknesses, Jesus already has a plan to lead us back to Him. Just as in today’s verse, when we repent and turn our lives over to Him, God is faithful to forgive us and to give us an inheritance that we could never imagine. I was reminded of this when my father passed away and I had to put his financial affairs in order. As I sadly began the process, I was surprised to discover that my dad had put my name on the title to his home. Without my knowledge, he had done this to give to me all that he had. In that same way, God is our portion because through Jesus Christ He puts our name on the title to His house. If we put all our trust in Jesus Christ we will one day discover that because of His great faithfulness He has become our portion and our eternal inheritance!
