In the movie War Room, a real estate agent named Elizabeth (Played by Priscilla Shirer) and an eighty-year-old woman named Clara (played by Karen Abercrombie) forge an unlikely friendship. Clara mentors Elizabeth and teaches her the real meaning of prayer and what it means to be an active prayer warrior, praying on others’ behalf. Clara converted her closet into a “war room,” a place where she battles the enemy and prays for the souls of those around her. Inspired by Clara’s actions, Elizabeth does the same, saving her marriage and restoring all of them to a genuine relationship what the Lord. At the end of the film, the prospective buyers, a devout pastor and his wife, survey Clara’s home. When he gets to the closet where Clara prayed, he walks into it and declares, “Someone’s been praying in this closet.” When Elizabeth asks how he knew that, he replies, “It’s like the prayers are baked in.”
What a testimony—to have a prayer life so vibrant and so bold and to pray such crazy prayers of faith that my prayers linger throughout my home.
Don’t we all want to be known as a prayer warrior?
The question is: why aren’t we?
I try to pray every day. Oftentimes, the busyness of life gets in the way and I discard my prayer time to make way for “more important matters.” The truth is, nothing is more important than prayer. It is how we abide in Christ. In an earlier post, I talked about the meaning of abiding in God. As stated earlier, the phrase to abidemeans to “remain in or to wait upon.” Imagine how are lives would change if we were constantly waiting upon God or waiting on him to direct our paths. Would I be so quick to cast off my prayers then? If prayer is one of the main avenues where I speak and listen to God, shouldn’t I be waiting with expectancy for what the Lord has to say to me?
May we all be like Clara, allowing our prayer lives to be so powerful that those prayers “linger” for generationsto come.
