Thought for Today: “Let’s Get In Tuned”

Years ago I saw a TV ad about the benefits of pure water. You see a musical quartet with each member made out of pure water. In the beginning, they were playing beautifully and were in perfect harmony. But as they continued one violinist began playing off-key.

When the camera pans on this watery individual, you see impurities floating within him. Then one of the members of this quartet takes a strainer and strains out these impurities allowing the violinist to once again play in harmony with the others.

As human vessels, we’re all filled with the sinful nature, and if we let these impurities exist within our lives without confession, forgiveness, and repentance, which represents the strainer in this ad, then we can cause friction and disharmony with others causing division along with tainting the pure message of God’s grace and truth.

God will only bless people and a church that is in tune with Him and with one another. One church leader made this observation.

“Crack cocaine, alcohol, and sexual temptation have slain their thousands, but bickering, quarreling, and criticism have slain their ten thousand. No wonder the heart-attack rate for ordained ministers is off the charts.”

So true. I am reminded of Hebrews 12:15, “looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled” Nothing destroys a church and the pureness of the gospel message God wants to present through us more than division and discord. Bitterness does not only effect the one who is harboring bitterness; it taints the hearts of many around them.

True. And we can add “Division,” and “Discord” to our list of the dreaded “D’s”

      Take care and God bless
