Thought For Today: “Tested by the Word”
“Until the time that His word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him.” (Psalm 105:19)
Joseph was given a dream, a word of prophecy concerning what would happen in his and his family relationship. But for it to take place Joseph had to endure being betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and put into prison until God lifted him up and the word was fulfilled.
Likewise, God gives us His word of promise, but the circumstance of life makes it seem like these are just fantasies of our imagination. But it’s these very circumstances that God uses to test us whether we’ll trust Him at his word, or whether we will revert to our own understanding and follow our own ways.
“In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:6-7)
God is testing us by, in, and through His word is see whether we’ll trust Him or our circumstances.
Therefore, “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
