Trust Without Fear
In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
Recently our family were talking about trust funds, that is a form of secured savings that we trust will pay out in the future. Indeed a dictionary definition of “trust” I found was “a firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.” The Hebrew word for trust used in our scripture is bâṭach meaning to be confident, sure, have hope. An alternative reading of the verse given in the references of my Bible would be “in God I have put my trust without fear…”
Considering the circumstances that David finds himself in being in the hands of the Philistines while fleeing from King Saul, his utter confidence in God is remarkable indeed. In his fear David puts his trust in God and in His Word to sustain him, and then we find the first occurrence of our verse in verses 3-4. David has no trust in men or kings, but trusts only God.
Dear Reader, we certainly live in a world beset by sinful men, some of whom seek to harm us either personally, socially or even physically. May we have complete confidence in Almighty God, our Creator and Father, that we can lay our full trust before Him without any fear. Our trust fund is secure in His care in Heavenly realms, no one can touch them.
The Lord is for me; I will not fear;
