America’s End Unless We Repent

Whenever a nation forsakes God, it is ensuring its eventual destruction.

“They sow to the wind. And reap the whirlwind.” (Hosea 8:7)

This is the conclusion brought forth by the prophet Hosea concerning Israel’s blatant disregard of the Lord even though they don’t recognize they’ve done so. They said, “My God, we know You” (Hosea 8:2), but the proof is in the pudding.

They willfully disobeyed God’s law, set up their own kings and princes but did not seek out God in the process. They set up false gods (idolatry) and alters of sin and sought out alliances with godless nations. And now they were going to pay the price (Hosea 8).

Judgment was now imminent. “He shall come like an eagle against the house of the Lord.” (Hosea 8:1a)

And while they continue to multiply and fortify their positions and possessions, in the end these will not save them.

“He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins … For Israel has forgotten his Maker, and has built temples; Judah also has multiplied fortified cities; but I will send fire upon his cities, and it shall devour his palaces.” (Hosea 8:13b, 14)

Unless we repent, America is ensuring its own destruction. We say, “We’re a godly nation, we know God.” But the proof is in the pudding. We’re removing God and Jesus Christ from our nation’s consciousness and setting up alters to a political party or process. We idolize money, possessions, and power, and are making alliances with nations that hate the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and His Son, Jesus Christ.

We may for a while dwell securely; thinking ourselves safe, in the end God will bring sudden and decisive judgment unless we repent.

Our only hope and security are found in maintaining a right relationship with God.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1).

Very well stated. We can’t claim to be a godly nation while living contrary to God’s word and standing for things that are blatantly against God. It’s easy to claim to be a believer, but is it evident in our fruit. To summarize Matthew 7:15-20, …”You will know them by their fruits”.
