Our Peace Giver

(International Day of Peace)

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You have made it known that in this world filled with sin and evil that we will have trials and tribulations. But You also ask us not be anxious or worried, because when we’re with You, we can have a peace that You describe as surpassing all understanding. And this means it’s a peace that doesn’t have its basis in man, but in You and in You alone. And so, as You overcame this world filled with evil through Your death and resurrection, we humbly ask that You give us an extra measure of the Holy Spirit to give us Your peace that overcomes our worries. Thank you for Your love and faithfulness. AMEN

So true. And when we keep our focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), giving our anxieties over to Him, He will give us that peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). Like quoted here in John 16:33, Jesus never tells us there won’t be trials. However, when the trials come, we will have the power to withstand them through the Holy Spirit, since Jesus has already won the victory at the cross.
