MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING TO THIS

I have a hunch that something good is coming from Charlie’s death.

I have been musing on the Providence of God in the lives of many of our leaders over 250 years.

Bulletproof George Washington was a 23 year old officer in a fierce battle during the French and Indian War. After the battle was over, he took off his jacket and “found four bullet holes through it, yet not a single bullet had touched him.” Providence!

President Abe Lincoln was traveling by himself at night to the Old Soldier’s Home. A shot rang out and he was thrown from his horse. Later, someone went to retrieve his Stove Top Hat. It had a bullet hole through it. This was 5 months before he signed the 13th amendment abolishing slavery. Providence.

Theodore Roosevelt was shot in the chest but a “folded speech and eyeglass case in his pocket slowed the bullet, and Roosevelt insisted on giving his speech before seeking medical attention.”

Andrew Jackson did not join a church during his presidency. Later, a preacher saw that the former President was in attendance one Sunday. He was speaking on the Providence of God and pivoted to A.J. and said he was shocked he could be protected by God from Indians, wars, tomahawks, enemies and yet not bow the knee to Jesus. The former President was shocked by Providence and the admonition.  “Jackson’s faith deepened. In his last will, he expressed his hope for ‘a happy immortality through the atoning merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.’”

You could add close calls with Presidents Gerald Ford, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Donald Trump and others. Providence!

Some might wonder, why not President Kennedy or Lincoln in Ford’s Theater? I do not know. That is way above my pay grade. I just know God is in control even when it may not seem like it.

Some are wondering about Charlie Kirk. 31 years old. Young family. It is heartbreaking … and all the other senseless murders. Why? Why? I do not know, but I have a hunch that something good is coming from Charlie’s death.

Remember, a young Jesus follower named Stephen? He was bold and shared Jesus in the open air to antagonistic crowds. The message of the cross and empty tomb so enraged the masses that they assassinated him with rocks. Stephen’s last words were, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin!” (Acts 7:60). This echoed Jesus’ own words from the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Remember a young zealous instigator named Saul was holding the assassin’s coats. Perhaps Saul heard Stephen’s words and saw his face and thought, “MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING TO THIS JESUS!!”

I think many people especially college students are pondering that same thought!!!

Among Charlie’s last words were these, “Jesus Christ was a real person. He lived a perfect life. He was crucified, died and rose on the third day. And he is Lord and God over all.”

Providentially, is the Hound of Heaven calling you to a personal relationship with Jesus?
