Thank You Veterans

The LORD is my strength and shield.

I trust him with all my heart.

He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.

I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. —Psalm 28:7

Yesterday my wife, Erin, who is an elementary music teacher, held an assembly with songs and thank you’s from the children to veterans for their service to our country.

I have not served in the military but, as these children were singing and thanking the veterans who came to the performance, I was moved.

Tears rolled down my face as this generation said “Thank You” to the men and women who, in their service, have experienced things that most of us will never face. Duty called and they answered the call.

Then to see the look of gratitude from these veterans—who were parents, grandparents and other school staff—for this youngest generation expressing their thanks was, well, overwhelmingly beautiful.

As parents, we want our kids to show gratitude because we know that an attitude of gratitude isn’t just the right thing to do, it truly makes a difference in our own lives.

The same thing happens when we worship.

Worship is “Gratitude 2.0.” It is the expression of a grateful heart to a Heavenly Father who has given us far more than we could ever repay. Even now, he continues to supply us with everything we need in this life, and the life to come.

Worship is “Gratitude 2.0.”

Can I suggest two action steps today?

First, today: tell at least one person you know who has served in the armed forces how much you appreciate their service. Many gave up much to protect us.

Second, pause and give thanks to God for his goodness in your life. Thanksgiving is more than a meal; it’s a life-style and it is transformational. It will change you for the better.

Then, this Sunday, join us for worship (online, or in person) at CenterPoint to express your gratitude with others as well. Worship is the ultimate attitude of gratitude—and it is life-changing.
