“TIME TO CHILL”

Chilling out may be needed more than many other things found within the church and within a Christian’s life. This is especially evident as division runs rampant, and where the pandemic has pitted Christians against each other over politics and social events. How do we stay calm?

“Time to Chill”
By Dennis Lee

Back in the 1980s, there was a popular term that was used to calm a person. We would say, “Chill.” What I found even more interesting is that this wasn’t a new thought or concept. It is said that in the 1870s someone could actually take a “chill pill.”

Today, this may be needed more than many other things found within the church and within a Christian’s life. This is especially evident as division runs rampant, and where the current pandemic is pitting Christians against each other over politics and how to handle the current COVID virus.

What we need is to take time to calm and quiet our soul and spirit during these times of distress, so that we can hear from God instead of our emotions. And to do this we need to place our hope and trust in God, and not in our own understanding.

Look at what God says in Psalms.

King David said, “I have calmed and quieted my soul … hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever.” (Psalm 131:2-3)

And then in Psalm 118:8-9, it says, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.”

So, when we find ourselves ready to fight others rather than the devil who is behind it all, we need to take a chill pill, that is, we need to go to the Great Physician and get His understanding.

How easy it is to fight others, rather than the devil who is behind it. Thank you for the powerful reminder, Dennis. God Bless!
